Information about our precious metal chains used for permanent jewelry

  • About our Metals:

Permanent Jewelry is made from quality metals that are designed to withstand daily wear and are less prone to tarnishing or damage.

We carry chains and charms that are 14k Gold-Filled, Rose Gold, Sterling Silver, Stainless-Steel as well as solid 14k Gold (by special order). All our jewelry comes from certified manufacturers who adhere to standards set by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

What is Gold Filled and why it is better:

Gold-filled jewelry has a thick layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base metal like brass, making it significantly more durable and longer lasting than gold-plated jewelry, which has a very thin layer of gold applied through electroplating. Gold-filled pieces are a better investment and are less likely to tarnish or wear.

    About our Sterling Silver:

Sterling silver is a bright, luminous white metal. The initial bright white color is a result of its alloy composition, which is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper.

Sterling silver permanent jewelry can tarnish over time, as tarnishing is a natural reaction that occurs when the copper alloy in sterling silver reacts with sulfur in the air, moisture, and other chemicals. This tarnish can be managed with regular cleaning and proper care to maintain its luster.

    What About Stainless Steel:

We use Stainless steel with a PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating. This process applies a durable, thin, metal film to the stainless steel surface in a vacuum chamber. This treatment enhances the material's appearance with colors like gold, black, or bronze, and also increases its hardness, scratch resistance, corrosion resistance and durability.

Stainless steel is ideal for permanent jewelry because its extra strength allows it to withstand daily wear, including exposure to water and sweat, while its hypoallergenic properties make it suitable for sensitive skin. The material also requires very little maintenance to keep its shine.

  • Tarnishing vs. Wear:

Tarnishing with jewelry over time is a normal reaction with only the surface and can be cleaned off. Wearing off is a physical process where the coating rubs away (like seen in cheaper plated jewelry).

How to care for your jewelry:

To care for your permanent jewelry, clean it regularly with a mild soap and warm water solution, using a soft cloth or toothbrush for gentle scrubbing, then rinse and pat dry. We advise cleaning after swimming or exercise and try to avoid harsh chemicals that could damage or tarnish the piece. For sterling silver, a jewelry polishing cloth and cleaner can also be used to remove tarnishing.
